Al Midan Festival of Local Play ( 2006 )

The theatrical movement in the country lacked theatre authors who practiced theatrical composition, and the matter remained left to the initiatives of individuals. Within the artistic vision of the director of Al-Midan Theatre, theatrical director Fouad Awad, and with the support of the Administrative Director, Mr. Raed Nasrallah and the Administrative Board of Theater in that period, Mr Awad saw the importance of establishing a framework and a festival for the local theatre to serve as a theatrical greenhouse to develop the dramatic writing and scenography. The artistic director has set and defined the goals of the festival as follows: Encouraging writers and poets to practice theatrical writing profession Giving writers the opportunity to realize and watch the production of their first works on stage Sponsoring the production of plays for qualifying groups Encouraging independent theatre groups to present their new works Building a networking environment to encourage professionals to interact with workers in the various literary and artistic fields Providing a financial grant of 40 % of the cost of private production to support the band \ group participating in the festival Organizing theatrical writing competition and awarding monetary prizes
