Raas Almamluk Jaber is a text that entails a number of thorny issues. The stage is made of two spaces, one in which the play is happening and the cafe in which the audience sits, and what’s happening on the round stage reflects the reality of the audience.
Baghdad at that time lives in a tough reality as a result of a conflict between the minister and the Khalifa and the Ajams who are waiting for an opportunity to pounce and take control of the city.
One of the basics of the traditional Arabic theatre of the spectacle, is that there is no fourth wall erected between the audience and the performance, and the audience becomes part of the performance. And Raas Al Mamluk Jaber is a Palestinian spectacle.
