The Night and The Mountain”- Written by Abd Alghafar Makkawi based on a Yemeni legend dealing with a Ghoul, a mythical creature that is threatening people’s lives in the mountains, when it comes out at night to attack and maul the travellers and turning their lives into unbearable hell.
The author presented this folk legend in a festive manner similar to the traditional Arabic spectacle, a theatre inside a theatre. The play can be described as epic, involving dramatic storytelling in which the times get mixed up, past with the present, the real with the imaginary in a playful manner. And we gave it a modern twist by applying in to the Palestinian reality under the Israeli occupation, withput losing the sould of the original play.
